All was well for Govindharaj and his family of two just until before the COVID wave. Govindharaj is a presser by profession and his wife worked as a house helper to help educate their two sons.
Just prior to COVID, Govindharaj had been involved in a road side accident with a two wheeler suffering injuries to his head. Little did this family know that what they perceived to be minor concussion actually resulted in chondrosarcoma forcing the father to bed ridden with surgeries and follow up radiation therapy.
After two and a half years of struggle, the mother has now hired another presser to run the road side shop for survival, running between hospitals, work and home to manage household and children with her husband bed ridden due to the side effects of after surgery meds.
This medical condition has cost them their life and living as Govindharaj’s survival tablets alone cost Rs.13,000/- per month. The mother even though has had help from society and known people she has served with, nothing was permanent. She approached Vidhyavruksha Foundation through a teacher who has been helping this family by sponsoring medicines from time to time.
We visited their household and could’s offer our solace enough as they recalled their nightmare experience with healthcare for such a complicated diagnosis. Their requests are two fold –
Vidhyavrksha Foundation has worked with some partner NGO’s and found leads to help with education of their child. The Founder of Vidhyavruksha Foundation – Nisha Patil and Director – Lakshman have sponsored survival medicines for the first month personally looking at their state of affairs.
